overview

Energy is one of the major nutrient requirements for beef cattle. The more efficient cattle are at converting energy from the feed consumed to energy for meat, the better the feed costs and environmental output will be.

One of the most efficient ways of improving energy efficiency and reducing methane is by shifting ruminal fermentation towards more propionate. Propionate is a glucose precursor and is the most efficient Volatile Fatty Acid (VFA) for energy utilisation.

The essential oils in ELENSIS have been specifically selected to have a synergistic action in the rumen and in the hindgut. In the rumen it shifts fermentation towards propionate which is the most efficient VFA for energy utilisation and it bypasses the rumen to be effective in the hindgut, improving total starch digestibility.

A 3-years program combining university research and various trials
• Fundamental research and field trials
• ELENSIS potential confirmed in different production contexts
• Improvement of milk production and growth performances (beef and sheep)

ELENSIS is a blend of ingredients carefully selected to optimise the use of energy in the diet.

ELENSIS is the result of an extensive program combining fundamental research and field trials within different contexts of production.

1 · Incorporated into feed.
2 · Rate to be adjusted according to product concentration, species and physiological stage.

Practical meaning

The in vitro tests carried out at the university show a synergistic effect of the active ingredients of ELENSIS on the increase of total VFA in rumen fermentation and of propionate to acetate ratio.

The use of ELENSIS in ruminant diet allows to:

  • improve energy efficiency in the rumen
  • contribute to improving performance (milk production, ADG)

The different trials on farm and research centre confirm the potential of ELENSIS to significantly improve milk production in dairy and growth performances in beef.
